You touch on a very right point — the language of an advert/question. And I do agree that the “prove to me” is bad (as equally I dislike the “competitive salary”) and similar wording. I agree on the process needing to be respectful (btw: I don’t think that the multiple interview system is respectful). What I’m trying to do with this type of question — and alternative wordings are invited and welcome — is to provide a canvas for the interviewee to come to the interview prepared to show what makes them a good match, and the interviewer to probe that without resorting to “disconnected questions” (maybe a better definition than “surprise” questions — all questions having an element of surprise).
